Mrs. Weisenfluh was the lead teacher today. She planned a Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt for large group/recess time. The preschoolers had to find nature items on their checklist and put it into their bags. It was a challenge for many of the kids to find the last item on the list: something that you think is beautiful. The kids searched all over for flowers and it was a good time to talk about the seasons and how in the fall/winter we have to search hard for beautiful nature items. Mrs. Weisenfluh read the story of Thanksgiving during circle time and then during art we made: The Story of Thanksgiving Bracelets (see picture below). I told them that their homework assignment was to share these during their get togethers this week :) During small group we worked on patterning and fine motor skills. They had to cut out pieces of paper that had Thanksgiving items on them and then finish the patterns on their papers. Happy Thanksgiving!!
Officer Jamie (Westview's Washington County Resource Officer) came to our large group time to talk about stranger danger. The kids practiced what they would say if someone approached them that they didn't know; they yelled "stranger danger". He also told the kids to make sure to have their parents write down their address and phone number somewhere and leave it visible in the home in case of an emergency. We made our own officer badges and fire trucks during art this week.
Today at preschool we focused on learning more about the job of a postman. During large group we went on a walk around Westview and found letters addressed to us. Our art project was geared towards the upcoming Veteran's Day Holiday (Wednesday 11/11). We illustrated pictures of why we are thankful for veterans/soldiers and then our high school teacher transcribed what we wanted to say to them. One of my high school students grandfather is a veteran and she will be hand delivering these to the assisted living veterans care center that he lives at. During our literacy time today, Teacher Ezrie read the book: The Jolly Postman. As she read, preschool students put the matching letters into her mailbox. Next class we will focus on what Veterinarians do.
