All about Insects for the Letter I. Mrs. Weisenfluh read us the book called "Colorful insects" and we helped her put insects into jars as the story was being told. We learned all about: Bees, Dung Beetles, Butterflies, Walking Sticks, Praying Mantises, Moths and other insects that live in our world. Our sensory bin was full of insects & bugs...it was was hard to find all of the ants; they camouflaged in with the coffee beans (which acted as the soil). For snack we at walking sticks (string cheese and pretzels). It was a beautiful spring day so we were able to have an extra long recess and explore our playground looking for insects. During art we were able to create Bees, which will soon hang out on the bulletin board entering our school for all to see.
Helping Hands, Hats and Holidays were the main themes of the day. It was great seeing all the different styles of hats that were worn to preschool. During the day we talked about what kind of help we do for our families and community.
We are continuing to work on our bottle cap mural artwork. This project is a great way for our preschoolers to work on teamwork, color recognition and even counting.
To celebrate the upcoming St.Patricks day holiday, we made Shamrock necklaces. This provided a chance to work on fine motor skills in putting the cereal on the necklace and cognitive mathematical skills to make patterns. We finished the day with bunny headbands to celebrate Easter.
Goals Day: Today we encouraged preschoolers to dress in their future careers; our class consisted of: ballerinas, a tap dancer, police officers, firefighters, a scientist, doctors, veterinarians, a rock star, and a race car driver. For large group we practiced our kicking skills and tried to get the ball in the soccer "goal". It was great to see the interactions between preschoolers and high schooler students today, talking about their future plans, careers and goals.
Fun at the Fair. During Literacy Time, Teacher Quincy read the book Rainbow "Fish". For large group Teacher Allison passed out for for the tickets and the preschoolers used these to take a scooter ride. Snack consisted of Fair Food: Apples, Popcorn, Mini Corn Dogs and a Mini Doughnut. For art we made popcorn and cotton candy out of cotton balls and paint.
Ear Book for literacy time, Eagles for art, Exercise for large movement and Elephants for snack. What an extraordinary busy day!!
'Our preschoolers transformed into Cowboys and Cowgirls today to go with our "C" theme. Maria read the book: The Day the "Crayons" Quit in the morning. During large group we did a variety of cow ranch activities like: throwing plastic spurs into a boot, arranging cowboy hats in numerical order, playing horseshoe and lassoing our giant horse named Mr. Fargo. For snack we ate campfires (pretzels and graham crackers = logs and carrots = fire) During art we made cactus; using sand, rice and tissue paper to make our creations! Our red wall in our classroom is starting to fill up...don't forget that starting next week we will transition to the color Orange!
