Today we focused on the Letter O in preschool. During art we made Owls, using our painted hands to make the owl wings. After recess we went on a O hunt around the school and found the following objects: orange, orangutan, ocean, onion, otter, oyster, orca, and octagon. At snack we at Owls (an oatmeal cookie was the body, an apple was the wings and head, oranges were the feet and beak, marshmallows were the eyes, and a pretzel was the branch)
Today was the letter N; Teacher Natalie taught all about Nests. We had a special in school field trip today; we were invited by the robotics class to watch their "robot battles". When we walked into the room each child had to make a selection as to whether or not they were on the blue or red team. There was then 10 rounds of robot competitions for us to watch. The pictures show just how excited our little friends were with watching this experience! We are so fortunate to have been invited to so many wonderful events here on campus during this school year!!
Today we celebrated Chase's 4th birthday....he brought in yummy chocolate cupcakes for snack. There were also muffins to eat because it was M day. We played a round of Musical Chairs during large group. This activity was a great way for our friends to work on their prosocial skills. The high school teachers and I were really impressed at how positive and encouraging they were with one another during the activity.
Teacher Sydney focused the whole day around the Letter L. For large group we went on an L hunt around the high school, searching for pictures of animals that started with the Letter L; some of the animals we found were a llama, ladybug, leopard, lion and labrador retriever dog. For snack we ate lions: an orange slice was the face, bananas were the ears, blueberries for eyes, almond slivers for whiskers and kix cereal for the mane. During art we created Lion and Ladybug art. The sensory table is now a ongoing project "Loom Art". Preschoolers will be utilizing their fine motor skills and creativity to make a class tapestry. They are sewing with plastic needles and different colors of yarn. Some of our friends found some pretty creative ways to do this; such as laying underneath the fabric. This project will be displayed in our preschool classroom when it is finished.
The focus on this week were the Letters I and J. On Monday we made Iguana art and our sensory table contained Icy Insects. We had lots of fun using our fine motor skills to scoop up the ice cubes and try to free the insects that were frozen inside. On Wednesday the Letter was J; the theme was Jellybean in honor of Easter this weekend. During recess we had a hunt to find easter eggs that had our names on them. During art we created Easter bags utilizing a variety of art mediums.
